Wherever possible we endeavour to
permanently reinstate excavations on completion of repair
works the same day
To reduce the disruption to customers
we have stopped the common practice of temporary tarmacing
our excavations and then carrying out a permanent repair
at a later date.
To
carry out first hit reinstatement effectively
has required a significant investment of time
and resource to ensure effective planning.
Ultimately this has resulted in less
disruption to the public, more efficient business processes
and more cost-effective solutions.
SWIMS stands for Street Works Information
Management System and the team work's closely with our
reinstatement department to ensure completion dates
are adhered to and to liaise with councils in the setting
of agreed completion dates.
By liaising with the council and having
good communications with them via good working relationships
we can minimise disruption to the public whilst maximising
customer benefits from our activities.
Specifications
Each road requires different levels
and types of tarmac. The specifications are decided
by the Highways Authority based on the road category
and the levels of traffic that use the road in question.
If the road is a busy one, thicker tarmac densities
that will last for much longer are required.
These however take longer to
set and be ready for use (cooled down). This may mean
that when our road works appear unmanned we are often
actually waiting for the tarmac to cure (cool down).
