The use of temporary traffic lights
Minimising traffic disruption

We put Mid Kent Water signs on all of our road works including clearly shown contact details, this enables the public to contact us directly with any queries and comments about our road works.

The use of temporary traffic lights

Where possible temporary traffic lights are removed during rush hour periods. At other times they are controlled as Directed by the Highways Authority this may include manual control to assist the flow of traffic.

Minimising traffic disruption

Section 74 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 requires an undertaker executing street works in a maintainable highway to pay a charge to the highway authority where (a) the duration of the works exceeds such period as may be prescribed, and (b) the works are not completed within a reasonable period.

At Mid Kent Water we have a planning team to ensure that this does not occur whilst allowing us to deal with the day to day emergencies and traffic work associated with a water company.
