Mid Kent Water was one of the first
utilities to use stone mastic asphalt.
This is a new surface material used
to repair carriageways.
It is a more durable material
that not only lasts longer but also reduces noise.
We are experts at repairing carriageways using
Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA).
Traditionally
all motorways and major roads have been laid using
a surface called HRA - Hot Rolled Asphalt.
Unfortunately this material
was liable to cracks, also was noisy and inflexible.
As a response to this the Highways agency introduced
and insisted upon the use of Stone Mastic
Asphalt.
SMA is laid
by machine and is a denser material with fibres,
it is stronger, lasts longer and is far less noisy.
A downside of SMA is that its
additional strength makes it difficult to remove
when repair works are required.
With over 20 years of water
company experience we have become uniquely skilled
at carrying out repairs with Stone Mastic
Asphalt for Mid Kent Water.
